Transletting Italia – Roma took place in collaboration with the Dipartimento di Studi Europei, Americani e Interculturali at Sapienza, Biblioteche di Roma and the Casa delle Traduzioni, the Casa di Goethe and ZeLT.
HANNAH ARENDT LESEN VIENNA 2026
February 20–22, 2026
Hannah Arendt Lesen, third edition, at Am Modenapark in Vienna’s third district, together with Versatorium. Close to thirty participants travelled from Prague, Rome, Vienna, Berlin, Amsterdam and places in between to read Die Unwiderruflichkeit des Getanen and Die Macht zu Verzeihen from Vita activa against The Human Condition – in German and English, and in the Greek and Latin that runs through both: audible throughout Arendt’s English, and set in the Greek alphabet where she writes German.

Transletting
USA 2025
From mid-September to early October 2025, Transletting was in New York City and the Hudson Valley for the second edition of Transletting US. The weeks moved between three kinds of work: a residency at Bard College, readings by this year’s tandems, and a walk through Central Park carrying a corpus in some twenty languages.
September 25, 2025
Transletting Walk through Central Park, starting at the Shakespeare Statue. Participants carried the day’s corpus and green umbrellas through the rain. Roughly twenty languages were in circulation – among them Arabic, Armenian, Awajún and Wampis, Chinese, Dutch, Farsi, French, German, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Mojave, Narragansett, Norwegian, Portuguese, Romanian, Spanish, Xhosa and Yoruba – with texts by Ingeborg Bachmann, Giuseppe Ungaretti, Ilse Aichinger, Hannah Arendt, Yoko Tawada, Sawako Nakayasu, Natalie Diaz, Rosmarie Waldrop, Jacques Derrida, Urayoán Noel, Hanane Aad, Sara Mohammadi Ardehali, Dina Ananco, Fatemeh Ekhtesari, Yugen Blakrok, Logan February and Jorge Kanese. Several texts travelled in three or four versions at once, the walk moved between languages rather than from one to another.

September 22–24, 2025
Three days at Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, developed together with Jana Schmidt and continuing a conversation begun with Thomas Wild. The residency ran in several parts: the second edition of Hannah Arendt Lesen, around The Gap Between Past and Future; experimental work on texts from May Ayim’s blues in schwarz weiss; and a reading of Robert Walser’s Kleist in Thun, the German critical edition against Christopher Middleton’s English and a Dutch version. The wider corpus also held Ilse Aichinger’s Meine Sprache und ich, Antonella Anedda’s Notti di pace occidentale and Ingeborg Bachmann’s In Apulien and Herbstmanöver, each text set beside its own translations rather than read towards a single one.

Day of Translation at the Center for Fiction, Downtown Brooklyn, which Transletting attended together as guests – among the panels Resistance Translation and Interspecies Translation, the latter moderated by Elisha Cohn with Susan Bernofsky, Bonnie Chau, Anelise Chen and Kate Zambreno.

On Nov. 22 '24 – kamen Interessierte mit und ohne Text, mit und ohne Kontext, in Leipzig in der Wächterstraße zusammen. Über Stunden hinweg wurde ein Ausschnitt zum Verzeihen, a chapter on Forgiving, gelesen. In Hannah Arendts Englisch, Deutsch, Griechisch und Latein, in Hannah Arendts Vita Activa und The Human Condition.
