Transletting 2026
-
On September 19 and 20, Transletting is a guest at Künstlerhaus Lauenburg on the Elbe. On the first day, a trio of tandems – Enrico Bordieri, Clara Schiltenwolf and Alice Muitoevoli Rugai – finalise their translations of each other’s texts. On September 20 at 15:30 the trio presents these translations and speaks about the processes and approaches behind them, alongside a wider conversation on Transletting’s ideas about the many ways of translating and reading across languages, mastered and non-mastered. With Susanna Guidi and Konstantin Schmidtbauer for Transletting, and with Eliana Kirkcaldy, current artist in residence at Künstlerhaus Lauenburg, who initiated the event.
In cooperation with Künstlerhaus Lauenburg and Literaturhaus Hamburg.

Transletting returns to New York City for a third time. From the second half of September into early October, workshops, tandem readings and translation events take place across the wider New York area, among them Princeton and Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson.
-
Transletting joins ALTA49, the annual conference of the American Literary Translators Association, at the Portland Marriott Downtown Waterfront.
Generation Station: Beyond and Between Language – a workshop. Join the Transletting collective in looking at how one text can spawn many translations, and how creative translation opens up new ways of looking at literary translation. With one text as the centrepiece, participants first tackle it in the creative mode of their preference – collage, homophonic translation, erasure. The literary translation is then revealed, and participants compare their own versions against it, observing what each has attended to. What is gained when writers exchange differing translations of the same text, and what can be learned about a text through how others experience it, regardless of the original language?
Led by Samuel Haecker and Daniela Ordonez Delgado. Conference registration is open through October 7, 2026.

From November 13 to 15, Transletting is in Brixen / Bressanone at the invitation of ZeLT. Participants arrive on the afternoon of November 13 and meet the ZeLT team and the ZeLTlectio class working on Andrea Zanzotto over the evening.
November 14 opens at 09:00 with a joint welcome of the ZeLTlectio class and Transletting. Through the day a room at the Cusanus Academy is given over to preparing, reading and translating, and stays open to anyone who would like to join or simply watch. The evening is held as ZeLTfesta – ZeLTlectio x Transletting: after a short address marking five years of ZeLT, Transletting has an hour to present its work, with readings from the tandems and time given to the differing approaches to translation they took. The Ladin language class then presents its poetry and its anthology, before the evening opens out into the buffet.
November 15 is left calm, for the journey home.

For September 2027, Transletting is preparing events and tandems in 日本 and is looking for partners on the ground.
-
Collaborations in Colombia and Latin America are planned for the second half of 2027 and the beginning of 2028.
Next to in-person events, Transletting also facilitates tandem translation exchanges.
In these exchanges, writers – and people who occasionally write or find texts – are invited to submit their work and get paired up with another submitter. These tandem partners translate each other's work, and can choose to do so in whichever creative mode best suits them. There is, for example, no requirement to speak (or have ‘mastered’) the other’s respective language, nor to translate within the borders of a respective genre.
